SONG IN OUR SILENCE (Psalm 139) Refrain: Song in our silence, Light in our darkness, Water of life for our thirst, You are the freshness of birth ev’ry morning, the grace that encircles our days. 1. You search our hearts and You know us. Our lives lie open to You. Waking or sleeping, in the dark and in the light, Your friendship enfolds all our ways. 2. Even our thoughts yet unspoken, our dreams, our joy and our tears, You know them all with compassion, and bend Your ear to our pain. 3. Where can we go from Your Spirit? Where could we flee from Your face? If we soar to the heavens, behold, You are there. 4. Should we flee to the place of dayspring, or sail to the sea’s furthest end, there Your love would embrace us, Your right hand hold us fast. 5. Our deepest self You created, fashioned in our mother’s womb. Nearer to us than our own subtle breath, You know us, O God, through and through. 6. Your ways are deep and beyond us, Your wisdom stirring within. How many the signs of Your presence, countless like grains of the sand. 7. Fathom our hearts, loving Hunter, search for Your children on earth. Lead us in paths that are faithful, and call us from death into life. © 1990 The Benedictine Foundation of the State of Vermont, Inc.
